The three developers, Shell WindEnergy, Eon UK and CORE, itself a joint venture between Farm Energy and Energi E2, intend to appeal the council decision blocking an onshore substation needed to connect what will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm to the national grid.
The proposed substation at Cleve Hill, near Faversham, a key element of the 1,000 MW London Array wind farm consisting of some 270 turbines sited more than 20 km offshore in the approaches to the Thames Estuary, was rejected over concerns of the impact of construction traffic and the visual impact of the substation.
