Macquarie buys solar portfolio in Mexico

31 August 2018

Macquarie Infrastructure and real Assets has acquired a 90 % stake in a 322 MW solar power portfolio in northern Mexico.

The investment is the firm’s second in the Mexican solar sector and includes projects that are in operation, under development and in late-stage development, it said. The remaining 10 per cent of the portfolio will be held by Eosol Invest Mexico, a renewable energy developer.

The portfolio consists of two operational projects with a combined capacity of 67 MW, a single 109 MW project that is under construction, and two projects with a combined output of 146 MW that are due to start construction later in 2018. Spanish firm TSK Electronica y Electricidad is building the solar farms.

In 2016, Macquarie purchased the 22.5 MW Coahuila solar park in Mexico. Coahuila started operating in 2017.
