Major upgrade of Turkey's distribution network by 2010

13 March 2008

Siemens Energy is to initiate a major programme to upgrade Turkey’s electricity network with the installation of two network control centres for the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAS).

Siemens says it is to modernise and automate the distribution networks of the Konya and Ankara regions under a contract with TEDAS. The work will be completed by February 2010 and is the first stage in a programme that aims to upgrade a total of 20 networks in the country.

Siemens will install a control centre equipped with a SCADA/DMS control and monitoring system in the Konya and Ankara networks. It will also deliver the complete protection technology for the two distribution networks, involving the installation of around 1600 protective relays in each region.

Siemens announced recently that it has received a follow-up order from China Light and Power to expand the power distribution system in Hong Kong. Under a $300 million contract, Siemens will modernise and expand the city’s medium voltage network over a five-year period with the installation and commissioning of some 2000 distribution substations.
