A solar hybrid system developed by Malaysia's Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) utility has been installed on four islands off Mersing, in Johore, a southern Peninsular Malaysia state.
The first phase in the RM8.9 million ($2.3 million) projects, developed by a team of engineers and technicians from TNB Energy Services, began operations late last year. The hybrid system comprises solar photovoltaic panels, a diesel gen set and battery used for energy storage.
The diesel automatically starts generating during a prolonged drop in solar resources, a sudden increase in demand or a decrease in battery capacity.
