A consortium led by Masdar has won a contract to build an 800 MW solar project in Dubai.
The third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will be built by Masdar and its partners, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and Gransolar Group, as an independent power project (IPP).
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said that it received 95 expressions of interest in the project in response to a tender request last year. The Masdar consortium bid a levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of 2.99 US cents per kW/h to build the photovoltaic project.
The 13 MW first phase of the solar farm became operational in 2013, with the 200MW second phase scheduled to come online in 2017.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum project is planned to have a total capacity of 5 GW by 2030, making it the largest single-site solar park in the world.
