Mexican renewable technology developer Marersa is to launch a 3 MW wave plant for national power company CFE in December, and following that a 60 MW facility. CFE has commissioned Marersa to build the US$5.4mn, 3 MW Rosarita pilot project, Mexico's first wave power generator, on the breakwater of the Presidente Juárez thermo plant off the Pacific coast of Baja California state.
The 60MW facility already has CFE approval and is planned for the Gulf of Mexico coast in Puerto de Tuxpan in the Veracruz state.
The first 2 MW is scheduled to be ready by March 2013, an further 22 MW expected to launch in April 2013, and the balance in August. The project is expected to produce power at a rate 20% cheaper than CFE's retail rate.
