Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, in consortium with Foster Wheeler Energy, has received an order from E.ON to support the front-end engineering design (FEED) for a post-combustion carbon dioxide capture plant proposed as part of E.ON's planned (although postponed) Kingsnorth supercritical plant. The order follows the earlier pre-FEED phase awarded by E.ON in June 2009.
The project is one of the two remaining contenders in the UK government's current long running CCS competition, the other being a retrofit project at Scottish Power’s Longannet station.
MHI's CO2 recovery technology is the KM-CDR process, employing the KS-1 solvent, which MHI and Kansai Electric developed jointly.
