Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has won a contract to supply two steam turbine generators for the Zhejiang Sanmen nuclear power plant in Zhejiang Province, China. The order was placed by Sanmen Nuclear Power Co. Ltd., and represents MHI's largest ever nuclear power plant-related equipment order from overseas to date.
MHI will supply the steam turbine packages jointly with Harbin Power Equipment Co. Ltd. (HPEC). Each package will consist of one 1200 MW turbine, a generator and peripheral equipment such as condensers and pumps.
The Zheijang Sanmen nuclear power plant's two units are scheduled to enter operation in 2013 and 2014. It is based on Westinghouse AP1000 technology and is located on the Maotoushan Peninsula along the East China Sea. MHI will supply its most advanced high-performance high-efficiency units with 54-inch class rotating blades.
MHI's Takasago Machinery Works will design and manufacture the turbines, while Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will supply the generators. HPEC will be responsible for turbine casings, piping and associated facilities.
