Indian power generating firm Mahagenco has placed an order with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for three supercritical boiler and steam turbine generator sets for a power project in Maharashtra state.
The equipment will be delivered to units 8, 9 and 10 of the Koradi thermal power plant, adding a total of 1980 MW to the grid. Trial operations of unit 8 are scheduled to begin in late 2013, followed by the other two units in mid and late 2014.
The Koradi project is a major element of Maharashtra state's efforts to boost power generating capacity in the face of strong economic growth. The order for the three units was placed by Indian engineering firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T), with which MHI has a joint venture arrangement in India.
Mahagenco is owned by Maharashtra state and is the second-largest electricity generator in India.
