MHPS to supply STs for 120 MW waste-to-energy plant

1 July 2016

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has received an order for two steam turbines and generators for a large scale waste-to-energy (WTE) project being advanced by the Singaporean National Environment Agency. The 120 MW class facility will be a stoker-type with the capacity to process 3600 tons of waste daily, and will be delivered through Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co. A stoker type incinerator has a floor lined with heat-resistant square section metal bars that can oscillate and so aid combustion by moving the fuel along the bed. The facility is scheduled to commence operations in the first half of 2019.
It will be built in Tuas, an industrial district in the mid-west of Singapore. Construction and operation will be the responsibility of a special purpose company (SPC) established jointly by MHI and the major local water processing and supply company Hyflux Ltd.
The EPC contract has gone to HydroChem, a subsidiary of Hyflux. MHIEC will supply the incinerator and generation equipment alongside MHI's local Singaporean subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte.
The MHI Group has been involved in three WTE plants in Singapore to date including the Tuas South Incineration Plant, which was completed in 2000 and, at 4320 tons per day, has one of the world's largest processing capacities.
