MHPS wins combined-cycle order in Korea

9 June 2014

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) is to supply two M501J gas turbines, one steam turbine and three generators to Daewoo Engineering & Construction for the Pocheon Combined Cycle Power Plant in Korea.

The power plant is being built in Pocheon, approximately 45km northwest of Seoul and is expected to go on stream in November 2016. It will feature two 60Hz M501J gas turbines, which were first introduced to the market in 2009. With turbine inlet temperatures of 1600°C they achieve the world's highest level of efficiency and power generation capacity in systems of this type, MHPS says.

The contract brings the number of J-Series gas turbine units supplied by MHPS in Korea to 13.

In related news, MHPS announced last week that its M501J gas turbines had started combined-cycle power generation at the 946.3MW Yulchon II power plant in Korea, marking the first GTCC operation of J-Series turbines outside of Japan.
