Münster government issues Datteln 4 permit

1 February 2017

The Münster district government in Germay has issued the emission-control permit for Datteln 4, a high-efficiency hard-coal-fired generating unit located on the Dortmund-Ems canal in North Rhine-Westphalia. The permit will make it possible for construction work to be completed and for the unit to enter service.
More than 1000 construction personnel are currently at work on the site. Some construction activities recommenced in March 2016 after the issuance of a permission for an early commencement of construction works. Although the generating unit itself is largely completed, a number of ancillary facilities must still be built or completed. These include the fuel storage facility, the conveyor system, and the equipment to unload coal barges and load by-products.
Datteln 4 is a hard-coal-fired cogeneration unit with a net power capacity of 1050 MW, and capable of up to 60% fuel efficient operation when cogenerating heat. It will replace a number of older Uniper units in the region.
