More than 20 GW of renewables planned for UK

1 February 2005

A survey by Platts Power UK shows that more than 21 GW of new, large renewable projects are being planned by developers in the UK. The vast majority are wind farms roughly be equivalent to some 10 GW of conventional generation given the load factors.

If all the projects are built, the price of Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs), the mechanism currently used to fund green energy projects, could crash. Platts estimates that the price drop will be from around £47 to £42 ($24.9 - $22.6) as new renewable capacity comes on line.
