Multi-turbine floater completes tests

30 October 2019

The W2Power prototype, the first multi-turbine floating wind platform, has successfully completed tests at the Plocan test site in Spain.

The tests were carried out between June and October 2019 on a 1:6 scale prototype and was funded within the framework of the European call Era-Net DEMOWIND, co-funded by several institutions including the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI).

The prototype – a triangular floating platform equipped with two 100 kW wind turbines – has now been decommissioned, Plocan said. The tests will help developer Enerocean to collect information from different parameters that will allow a further development and optimization of the design.
