NDA launches PBO competition

12 April 2007

The competition seeks a company or consortium to act as the PBO that will own shares in the Magnox South SLC for the period of the contract with an annual spend of some £225 million ($450 million).

The NDA also announced that Energy Solutions and Jacobs have withdrawn from the competition, citing the need to support ongoing commitments to the NDA, BNG and other clients. Philip Strawbridge, EnergySolution group president said: “The choice to withdraw from the Sellafield PBO competition is simply based on the company’s desire to focus more directly on the LLWR programmes as well as the Magnox sites and all the other tier 1 and tier 2 opportunities that will be available in the UK.”

Meanwhile, the NDA chairman, Sir Anthony Cleaver, has announced his retirement at the end of his three year contract, due in July.
