NEW POWER PLANT FOR NILE

5 March 2002

A new hydropower plant is to be constructed at Naga Hammadi, on the river Nile in Upper Egypt 140 km north of Luxor. The new plant will replace an existing facility built between 1927 and 1930 and no longer serviceable as a result of riverbed erosion. The new dam and integrated hydropower station will be fitted with a bulb turbine made by VA Tech Hydro.
