Niederaussem modernisation

23 July 2007

Siemens is to upgrade the high- and intermediate-pressure turbines and two low-pressure turbines at the 620- MW coal-fired power plant units G and H in Niederaussem, which went on line in the mid-1970s. The turbines will be equipped with new advanced rotors and blading. The scope of services will include further efficiency-enhancement measures such as modernisation of the condensers and the turbine I&C systems.

Modernisation work is slated for completion in 2008 and 2009 and will reduced carbon dioxide emissions from the plant by 600,000 tonnes per annum.
