Nigeria gets its research reactor

Nigeria has commissioned its first nuclear reactor at Ahmadu Bello University in the northern city of Zaria. Research director Ibrahim Umar said that the reactor is designed for research, including element analysis for soil-mapping, solid minerals identification and medical research.

Concern has been expressed over security of the reactor, as there are occasional disturbances by religious extremists in northern Nigeria.
