Nova granted consent for new gas plant

12 May 2017

Regulators in New Zealand have granted consent for the construction of a new gas-fired power plant south of the town of Hamilton.
Nova Energy applied to two district councils for permission to build the 360 MW plant on 5.6 hectares of land in Otorohanga district in New Zealand’s North Island.
Both councils have recommended that Transpower, which owns and maintains the national electricity grid for New Zealand, confirms arrangements to connect the new plant with its existing power transmission system.
The new gas plant will use gas sourced from the Maui pipeline and will boost energy supplies to the region at times of peak demand.
