9 June 2005

Meridian Energy has announced plans to develop New Zealand’s largest wind farm, the 210 MW West Wind project.

The proposed wind farm is expected to have up to 70 turbines located across a 55 km2 site on Quartz Hill west of Wellington. The project is expected to contribute more than 2% of New Zealand’s annual electricity.

Meridian Energy is currently seeking resource consent to develop the project.
