20 November 2019

Orsted has started construction of a 460 MW utility-scale solar-plus-storage project in the USA.

The Danish developer says that its Board of Directors has given the green light for the investment in the Permian Energy Centre, which is due to start operating in 2021.

The project is the company’s first utility-scale solar-plus-storage project. It will be located in Andrews County, Texas and will consist of 420 MWac of solar PV and 40 MWac of battery storage located on a 3600-acre site alongside existing oil and gas installations.

“We’re very excited to be moving ahead with the Permian Energy Center and to be adding solar plus storage to our rapidly growing portfolio of US onshore assets,” said Orsted CEO Henrik Poulsen. “With the completion of the project, Ørsted will have a US portfolio of operating assets that spans the full spectrum of offshore and onshore renewable energy technologies, which we believe is important as we look to offer our customers the most competitive and diverse clean energy solutions into the future.”
