Pakistan invites power project bids

AES Corp has been approved by the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) to set up a 1,000 MW integrated coal mine and power project in Thar.

To encourage the development of indigenous coal, three power projects are to be opened for international competitive bidding and the Board has also approved a 150 MW power project based on Lakhra coal. The projects, with a combined capacity of 1,300 MW include the 450 - 500 MW Uch-II projects, a 450 MW project at Faisalabad and a 350 MW project near Lahore. Investment of $1.3 billion is expected to come from the private sector.
