3 January 2006

According to the paper, senior Pakistani officials have said the reactors are due to be completed by 2025 with construction due to commence in 2015 and will contribute 3,600 MW – 4,800 MW.

Pakistan recently began construction on the Chinese designed Chasma 2 nuclear plant in the Punjab, which is adjacent to an existing 300 MW Chinese supplied nuclear station.

However, Pakistan has been active in allaying concerns over nuclear proliferation after a senior figure in the country’s nuclear programme admitted selling technology to states including Libya and Iraq.
