The CO2 Capture Project (CCP), a joint industry project by oil majors BP, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips, Eni, Hydro, Petrobras, Royal Dutch/Shell and Suncor, has begun phase II. Now, a series of CO2 capture technologies are being developed to be ready for pilot testing by the end of 2007.
CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) to store the CO2 associated with the use of energy derived from fossil fuels in geological formations is gaining increasing support and has already received initial funding from the US DoE and the Norwegian Research Council.
The first phase of CCP (CCP1) cost $50 million and developed a range of technologies to reduce the cost of CO2 capture and provide assurance that CO2 can be securely stored geologically. CCP1 was completed in 2004, results are available on:
