Plan for giant solar farm in Queensland

11 May 2018

Sunshine Energy Australia has submitted plans for the construction of a 1.5 GW solar farm in Queensland.

The Somerset Regional Council in the south-east of the Australian state says that it has received an application for a 2000 hectare site near Harlin that includes two substations, facilities for up to 60 employees and provisions for battery storage.

The site is thought to be well suited for the development due to irradiation levels and its proximity to the existing high voltage power network that serves the city of Brisbane.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said: “This is a complex development application. The application has been referred to various government departments and agencies for their input and we will carefully assess it against our planning scheme like any other proposal.”
