12 August 2005

A new wave energy production facility near Porto city, in northern Portugal, is under consideration by the government.

Portugal has launched feasibility studies at an estimated cost of some €200,000 that will be carried out by Energias de Portugal (EdP), the local Institute of Sea Transport (IPTM) and specialists from Spanish civil engineering consultancy company Consulmar.

The total investment in the government-backed project is expected to be around €2.8 million. Annual production capacity of the facility is estimated at 1.2 GWh at the end of the first year of operations.
