Power from rice husks

20 April 2000

Scientists in China have developed a process to generate power from rice husks, a potentially rich source of energy in Asia.

The process involves alternately burning and cooling the husks to release a flammable gas that is then burned to drive a gas turbine or gas engine. The scientists involved in the project say that they have tested the process in the laboratory.
