Powerstar, a UK company specialising in voltage optimisation technology, has been awarded a €1.65m grant from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Innovation & Research Programme.
The award has been made in relation to Powerstar Virtue, a recently launched energy storage solution, and will result in a joint project of E.ON Energy, an unnamed UK retailer and Warwick University to commission a 3 MW installation at one of the UK retailer's stores. Once installed the site will have the capability of becoming entirely grid independent.
The technology can be integrated with on-site renewable power generation to combine the energy saved from the voltage optimisation system with that generated from the renewable energy source. As a result, users can switch to the stored supply at any time they wish.
In addition to allowing the retailer's stores to become grid independent, installing Powerstar Virtue systems will help the company reduce energy costs.
Powerstar Virtue employs a patented voltage optimisation technology that allows it to harness the savings achieved from the voltage optimisation system and divert them to the energy storage system.
Powerstar recently announced a further expansion into USA, which is seen as a major growth market - particularly for Powerstar Virtue - with the signing of three new distribution agreements to add to the five US partnerships already achieved.
