Pumped-storage plant set to go ahead in Slovenia

3 August 2005

Slovenia’s first pumped-storage hydro plant is set to go ahead with the signing of contracts worth €86.6m, representing about 70% of the total cost.

The main construction works at the Avce plant on the Soca river will be carried out by domestic construction companies Primorje and SCT, with generation equipment supplied by a consortium of Melco, Rudis and Sumitomo.

Remaining contracts are expected to be finalised this year and the plant is due to begin operations in 2008.

Soske elektrarne will operate the facility
