The Commission de Régulation de l'Energie (CRE), the French energy regulatory body, is waiting for final government approval to implement new rules for third party access to electricity transmission and distribution tariffs. Ministers have two months to raise objections to the proposals before they are tariffs are nationally implemented.
If the plan is approved, the details of which have not been disclosed, it will replace the short-term tariff regulations introduced in November 2001. Cecile George, the CRE economics chief is quoted as saying, "The new tariff, yet to be approved, aims to provide more transparency to the power sector and to reflect the real cost of transport and distribution."
