Rolls Wood £20 m acquisition

25 February 2002

Industrial gas turbine overhaul company Rolls Wood Group has acquired the Rolls-Royce Allison industrial and marine repair and overhaul engine programme from Rolls-Royce Engine Services Oakland (RRESO) of California, USA for approximately £20 million. The sale transfers to Rolls Wood Group the resources and assets of the R-R 501K and 570/571 gas turbine product lines, including staff, equipment and capabilities. More than 2000 of these engines are currently operated world-wide by major fuel and power companies, as well as customers in the marine market.

The engine programme taken over is largely in San Leandro, California, where services include engine repair, overhaul and testing, and field service. To enhance the world-wide coverage, the company intends to establish a branch in Aberdeen, including full engine performance testing, and this will provide the overhaul service to the significant population of engines in the eastern hemisphere. "It is our intention to develop the acquired business internationally through our key operating centres round the world", said ceo Hugh Gibson.
