Russia, Bulgaria to close Belene EPC deal

15 April 2011

Russia and Bulgaria during the next few weeks sign an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the delayed Belene nuclear power plant, the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has announced.

Earlier the same day, Bulgaria's National Electric Company (NEK) and Russia's nuclear engineering company Atomstroyexport signed a memorandum of understanding and a supplement to an earlier agreement on Belene.

The project to build the plant in northern Bulgaria has been stalled since 2006 owing to price disputes.
