RUSSIA cuts off GEORGIA

6 May 2002

Russia has interrupted supplies of electricity to Georgia because the Georgian government has failed to meet its schedule of payments for power more than once this year. Apparently the last payment was received in December 2001. Power delivered to Turkey through Georgia has also been suspended. Russia claims that Georgia has been illegally diverting some of this power for its own use.
