Russian pumped storage project launched

The new power plant will be built near the existing Zagorskaya plant and will have a design capacity of 840 MW. The first 420 MW unit will come on line in 2010, with the plant scheduled for completion for 2012.

Investments in the project are estimated at RUB30 billion ($1.2 billion).

Work is underway to develop a programme of construction of pumped-storage power plants in Russia which also includes the Leningradskaya and Tsentralnaya projects.
