RWE evaluates 6 MW offshore turbines

4 December 2011

REpower says that it is on schedule to provide 48 of its 6M offshore wind turbines for RWE Innogy’s Nordsee Ost wind farm in the North Sea.

The wind turbine manufacturer has also sealed a deal with RWE Innogy to provide a further two 6M wind turbines for the extension of the Westereems onshore wind farm in the Netherlands.

The deal will expand Westereems by over 12 MW, but will also give RWE the opportunity to evaluate the 6M before it is deployed at Nordsee Ost.

The Westereem wind farm is the Netherlands’ largest wind facility and the installation of two 6M units will increase its capacity from 156 MW to just over 168 MW. Completion of the extension is planned for mid-2012.

In 2012 REpower will provide a further 48 of its 6M units for the Nordsee Ost project, located 30 km north of Helgoland. REpower is currently producing the 6M units, which have a hub height of 114 m and a rated output of 6.15 MW, at its factory in Bremerhaven.
