RWE plans new coal-fired plant

Releasing its six month results for the first half of 2005, RWE Power said that a highlight was gaining approval for a new 1,200 MW lignite-fired station at Neurath at an estimated cost of €2.2 billiuon. The plant is due to begin commercial operations in early 2010.

A final decision on building the plant is expected this autumn.

RWE Power recorded a 34.1% rise in operating profit to €1.313 billion, of which power generation accounted for €1.089 billion.
