Samsung and E.ON have laid out plans to collaborate on developing profitable energy storage solutions in selected regions and markets.
The two companies will seek opportunities for lithium-ion batteries in grid stabilization applications, for industrial customers and in appropriate energy systems. Initial projects will be installed in the USA, Germany, the UK and the Czech Republic, the two firms said.
"The expansion of renewables, together with customers' demands for decentralized solutions are driving the need for flexibility across the entire energy system," said Bernhard Reutersberg, chief markets Officer at E.ON SE. "Lithium-Ion batteries are well suited to provide part of this flexibility due to their modular size, efficiency, simplicity and scalability."
Reutersberg added: "To grow in this area, we are convinced Samsung is the right partner for us to develop a potential business model. The company is a market leader with a strong know-how and track record."
