San Diego Gas & Electric to expand transmission for renewables

3 February 2005

A 500 kV transmission line is planned by San Diego Gas & Electric in order to allow geothermal resources in the eastern part of its service territory to be exploited for use in the more populous western parts of its service region. The new line is expected to be built by 2011 and will allow the company to take advantage of geothermal resources. Sempra's unregulated arm, Sempra Generation, is on track to bring the 550 MW Palomar Energy power plant on line by mid-2006.
