San Gorgonio Pass to deliver 44 MW

20 December 2000

SeaWest WindPower Inc and PG&E Corp's National Energy Group have announced construction of a 44.4 MW wind power project in California. The project is being developed by SeaWest and will be acquired by PG&E National Energy Group. It is expected to begin delivering power to customers in the US state in April 2001.

The project, at San Gorgonio Pass near Palm Springs, California, will involve the installation of 74 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MHI MWT 600kW wind turbines. Each turbine will be mounted on a 50m or 60m tubular tower. Construction was expected to begin before the end of 2000 with commercial operation planned for April 2001.

The plant will deliver renewable energy which PG&E National Energy Group will market through its Pure Wind campaign. After a summer of power shortages, California needs additional generating capacity. With the completion of this project, SeaWest will have developed 422 MW of wind power projects in California and a further 200 MW in the UK and Spain.
