Schneider launches new storage solution

9 December 2015

The energy management specialist says that its EcoBlade system is a fully flexible, scalable unit based on lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries and has already been demonstrated in two commercial projects in Europe.

EcoBlade consists of 'blades' that weigh under 25 kg. Each blade consists of a smart connected battery module. EcoBlade can be used in standalone mode as well as in racks for larger applications such as in grids, data centers or buildings.

At the highest level, the blades can be integrated into containers to provide multi-MWh and complementary energy management services for the entire grid.

Schneider has already installed EcoBlade at the Venteea project in the Champagne-Ardennes region of northeastern France, where it helps to integrate renewable energy as part of a wider smart grid project.

In Corsica, a second project was launched at the beginning of June 2015 with two solar farms. Schneider Electric provides 1 MW conversion containers for each installation. The project will generate 1300 MWh per installation annually to meet the electricity needs of 400 homes.
