Construction of the wind farm began late in 2003, with the turbines being lifted into place in the summer this year. Final commissioning was delayed by poor weather which made it impossible to land staff on the turbines.
The £75m wind farm is capable of generating 60 MW, and prevents the emission of up to 75 000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The wind farm was the first major offshore scheme to receive permission from the Government and is one of the first operational offshore sites in the UK.
