SDG&E outlines powerline comms test plans

California’s San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has unveiled plans to test broadband communication over powerlines.

In the first phase, SDG&E will concentrate on testing the technology’s utility applications, including remote control of utility equipment; status reports on grid conditions; and compatibility with advanced metering infrastructure. Beginning in September, the trials will continue for up to a year.
