Second Siemens H class plant goes commercial in the USA

13 May 2014

Siemens reports that a second H class combined cycle plant, with an installed capacity of 1250 MWe, has entered commercial operation in the USA, the Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center in Florida.

The Riviera Beach plant, operated by Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc, began commercial operation on 1 April 2014. The first Siemens H class plant in the USA, at Cape Canaveral, was commissioned last year.

For the Riviera Beach project, Siemens supplied three SGT6-8000H gas turbines, rated at 274 MW each. The new combined cycle plant replaces oil-burning units previously installed at the site.

Siemens has sold 28 H class gas turbines worldwide to date, nine of which are in commercial operation.
