Sempra Energy has lost its battle with the rich and famous in rural Connecticut over the future of a $280 million power plant.
Sempra located an abandoned quarry in Litchfield County that seemed ideal for a peaking plant. Ideal, that is, apart from the concern of local residents who didn’t want the plant in their backyard. Local residents critical of the scheme include: Henry Kissinger, playwright Arthur Miller, fashion diva Diane von Furstenberg, and violinist Isaac Stern. The main criticisms levelled against the plant are that it will be aesthetically unpleasing, that it will strain the water supply of the region, and that it will create excessive noise.
