Senvion connects its 6000th WTG to the grid

6 July 2015

In May Senvion connected its 6000th wind turbine to the public power grid. Eight 3.0M122 turbines, designed for high yield at low-wind speeds, have been running since May 2015 at the Hollich community wind farm in Burgsteinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since its inception, the company has installed turbines with a total rated power of over 12 GW worldwide.
Andreas Nauen, CEO of Senvion SE, says: "With 6000 wind turbines, we are already making a significant contribution to achieving a successful energy revolution worldwide. We take our job of establishing wind power as a reliable and sustainable energy source of the future seriously. That is why we heavily invest every year in the development and refinement of new and existing products in order to keep driving continuous progress towards expanding the use of wind energy by setting technological benchmarks."
"Germany is our most important market," sais Kai Froböse, managing director of Senvion Deutschland GmbH. "In 2015, we will continue to put our expertise and experience to good use in the onshore and offshore sectors."
Senvion SE was established in 2001 as REpower Systems AG as a result of the merger of
Jacobs Energie, BWU and pro+pro Energiesysteme. Until recently it was a subsidiary of Indian WTG manufacturer Suzlon but in January this year was sold to an investment fund managed by Centerbridge Partners.
In April Senvion launched a new WTG in its 3.XM series designed for more stable grid feed-in. It features the Senvion 'Next Electrical System' which comprises a fully rated converter and an asynchronous generator. The NES constitutes a further development of the previous DFIG (doubly fed induction generator) system and is said to generate high yields wile lowering the levelised cost of electricity.
