A landslide has caused the death of seven construction workers at the site of a geothermal energy project in the Philippines. It is thought to have been triggered by heavy rainfall.
The workers were employees of First Balfour, a Philippines-based construction company that is a contractor for Energy Development Corporation, the owner of the power plant.
The landslide happened on March 1st at the Upper Mahiao geothermal power project in Leyte. A total of 43 First Balfour employees were on site at the time of the landslide; 32 were treated for injuries, according to a statement from EDC.
Four workers remain missing. "The Emergency Response Team and all available personnel, as well as company resources and equipment, have already been mobilized by Leyte's chief SVP Rico Bersamin," said EDC.
