SHELL TO OPERATE AFAM

Shell Petroleum Development Co has won the contract to operate the Afam 5 power plant, in Nigeria, for an initial period of 15 years. The company has already won approval for a scheme to refurbish, operate and transfer Afam 1-4. Shell is undertaking the project in cooperation with Eskom Enterprises. A total investment of around $450 million is expected. Afam currently supplies 100 MW to the Nigerian grid.
