Siemens consortium to build Yemen plant

Yemeni state-owned utility Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) has awarded a contract to a Siemens-led consortium for the construction of a gas-fired power plant in Yemen.

The 340 MW, €120 million development will be located in Marib, some 200 km east of the capital Sanaa. Commercial operations are expected to begin in mid-2007. The Siemens portion of the order is worth some €75 million.
