Siemens opens new manufacturing plant in Russia

10 July 2011

Siemens Energy has opened a manufacturing plant in Voronezh for 110 and 220 kV circuit-breakers and disconnector switches. The plant is designed for an annual production capacity of 500 circuit breakers. Voronezh is located approximately 500 km south of Moscow.

Important growth markets for high voltage products, namely Russia and neighbouring countries such as Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kazakhstan are to be served from Voronezh. First orders have already been posted to manufacture and deliver circuit breakers and disconnector switches for the Russian transmission network for Moscow’s regional power supply network and for industry. The demand for high voltage products is expected to continue to rise in the course of expansion and modernisation of Russia’s power supply network.

Siemens expects in the future to produce power transformers and gas-insulated high voltage switchgear at the plant, for which this expansion has so far absorbed a total investment of five million euros
