Siemens, Power Machines extend co-operation

9 July 2008

Germany’s Siemens and Russia’s Power Machines are to extend their co-operation agreement to cover Siemens’ advanced gas turbine technology.

The two companies have signed an agreement under which Power Machines will acquire the technology and production, marketing and service rights for Siemens’ SGT5-4000F gas turbines in Russia, India and the Russian sphere of influence. Production of the components for the first machines will start in 2009.

Power Machines will market the SGT5-4000F predominantly in Russia, Belarus, the CIS, Baltic States and India. The agreement will help to extend Siemens’ reach into the Russian market, which when combined with India's is the world’s largest for power and is at the beginning of a long and substantial upgrade process.

Combined cycle technology will play a major role in the replacement of ageing capacity in Russia, according to Siemens. Last year the company awarded Power Machines a license for a 165 MW gas turbine.
